Utilities Engineer

( Stationary Engineer/HVAC Mechanic/ Ammonia Refrigeration Technician)

The Kraft Heinz Company is currently seeking a Utilities Engineer to work at our processing facility in Avon- NY.  Ideal candidates must be safety and quality orientated and be willing to work in a team orientated- fast paced work environment. 

Minimum Qualifications:

·This job requires flexibility to work first- second- and/or third shift- weekends- and holidays.

·Must have working knowledge of refrigeration- steam generation- compressed air and HVAC fields.

·Must be physically capable of wearing a gas mask and self-contained breathing apparatus.

·Must be capable of completing all lifting (100 lbs.)- climbing- and other physical demands.

·CFC Certification - Type I & Type II: (Minimum) as defined by EPA.

·Steam/Refrigeration License preferred.

  • Compensation is up to $21.40-$24.43 /hourly- plus:
    • A $.30 shift differential for those who working on second.
    • A $.40 shift differential for those who working on third shift.
    • Daily Overtime for work performed in excess of 10.5 hours.
    • Daily Double Time for work performed in excess of 12 hours and work performed on plant Holidays.
    • Up to $4.65 extra per hour for Skill Set Certification Program.

·We invest in our Utilities employees to be the best in the industry. We do so by compensating them for the cost of obtaining the City of Rochester Steam Licenses S-1- S-2 and S-3 and the Refrigeration Licenses R-2-R-3 and R-4.

Our plant was established in 1906. Today- the facility manufacturers various Lunchables and Cool Whip products. Some fun facts about our plant are:

  • Once a manufacturer of frozen produce (Birdseye)- the facility counts with a giant cooler space.
  • Ammonia systems size is approximately 95-000 lbs.
  • 493-000 sq. ft. production space on a 67 acre site.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Under the direction of the Facility Maintenance and Engineering Manager- the Ammonia Refrigeration Technician is responsible for the safe- efficient and reliable operation- maintenance and monitoring of the plant ammonia/refrigeration- compressed air- process steam- steam plant heating- steam condensate- hot/cold water- HVAC- fire protection.

  • Must have a critical awareness of operating parameters and perform sensitive adjustments of complex controls on equipment- for varying operating characteristics.

  • Must have a complete understanding of all machinery including operating adjustments- maintenance and troubleshooting.

  • Is a primary member of the Emergency Response Team and must be knowledgeable of all emergency response procedures- especially action regarding ammonia releases to the environment and isolation/containment thereof and is subject to call in at any time including weekends and holidays.

  • The job expectations are to work from brief verbal as well as moderately complex written instructions with minimal supervision and without close observation.

  • Performing all functions while complying to and implementing the requirements of the OSHA Process Safety Management program is paramount.

  • Computer usage and knowledge is necessary for the tracking and operation of the systems operated.

  • Uses communication skills to coordinate jobs and train other mechanics- technicians and operators.
