Position Summary

The Software Asset Management (SAM) - Senior Manager role will lead the software Strategic Planning and License Optimization activities across the organization.  This role reports directly to the Global Head of IT Software Asset Management and is an integral part of our strategy to enhance software asset lifecycle methodologies in line with industry best practices.  SAM is an important and continuously evolving discipline within the Kraft Heinz Company- reporting directly into the CIO. 

We are looking for an experienced SAM leader to join our team of SAM professionals- bringing new ideas and concepts that can result in best in class SAM practices aligned to our maturity roadmap.  Our software asset management framework provides a set of processes that strategically manage and track the financial- physical- licensing and contractual aspects during the life cycle of software assets.  The SAM discipline supports our software strategy- service management- funding and sourcing decisions and is a focal point for data analysis to drive effective management of organizational software assets.  

While planning major software life cycle and cost management activities- this role will collaborate with leaders across IT operations- security- architecture- application owners- procurement- legal- financial controllers and IT PPM teams.

Primary Responsibilities

The Senior Manager- SAM Strategic Planning & Optimization role will:

  • Evaluate and enhance methodologies- processes and policies for software asset management in line with best practice and practical experience- as part of a cycle of continuous improvement and compliance across the group.  
  • Actively assess progress against our SAM program initiatives to advance our maturity roadmap.  Recommend and lead the introduction of new SAM concepts- processes and tools to improve overall program performance and productivity.  
  • Drive the full value (benefits realization) and insights from SAM investments to optimize license entitlements- process automations and compliance.  Specific knowledge of the standard industry SAM technologies and related IT asset discovery technologies is a must.  
  • Advise the relevant project- program- infrastructure- and application portfolio managers on software licensing- compliance- end of life dates and policies- and recommend actions that will optimize the software asset portfolio.  
  • Understand strategic IT and business initiatives and align software strategies to support these goals- such as- cloud licensing options.  Advise IT and SAM leaders on the potential compliance and cost risks associated with emerging markets.
  • Build strong partnerships with publishers and industry partners to stay abreast of new developments in publisher offerings- policies and process changes.  Given the complexity and multitude of software solutions- a specialized in-depth knowledge is required for publisher license models- policies- maintenance and delivery methods (on prem and cloud software options). 
  • Consult on the software selection process- which may include developing sourcing and negotiation strategies plus relevant data analyses to optimize purchases and renewals.   Work with the accounting staff to analyze and resolve complex issues associated with software licensing rights.
  • Manage specific top vendor software life cycles end to end- including compliance position- risk mitigation plans- renewals and advising on licensing models.  Interpret publisher licensing terms- product use rights- policies and discovery- in order to develop an effective license positions for all types of software- such as Microsoft- SAP- Oracle- IBM- VMware- Adobe- etc.

Qualifications

The SAM Senior Manager acts in a leadership role and must demonstrate proven experience- including:

  • Subject matter expertise related to SAM tools- processes and policies and industry best practices
  • Specialized in-depth knowledge of publisher license models- policies- maintenance and delivery methods (on prem and cloud software options) is required
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills with the ability to speak to all levels of IT- business management and employees regarding strategy- costs- execution- and performance
  • Proven ability to build relationships and influence individuals at all levels in a matrix-management environment- as well as external vendors and service providers- in order to drive actions
  • Proven experience in setting and aligning strategies- objectives- and policies
  • Proven ability to develop- implement- and execute action plans

Role Expertise / Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Information Technology or related degree to include Asset Management disciplines
  • Significant experience (5+ years) in delivering Software Asset Management services
  • Significant experience (7+ years) working in IT or ITAM/SAM team for a large enterprise ($10B+)
  • Experience 3+ years) managing a technical process area involving asset and contract management
  • Strong knowledge of Software Asset Management principles and practices and how software discovery systems play their part in mapping entitlements with the inventory
  • In depth knowledge of software product use rights and contract terms (EULAs) for major software vendor publishers (e.g.- Microsoft- Oracle- SAP- IBM- etc.) preferred
  • Demonstrated competency of Information Technology (IT) specific contract administration- purchasing or procurement with relevant experience in renewal processes
  • Preparing presentations and reports for Senior Management
  • Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM)- IAITAM and/or ITIL Certifications preferred
  • Project or Process Management experience (Certification a Plus)
