Description & Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

The SAM Sr. Analyst is responsible for daily controls over the collection and analysis of accurate software license and financial data- to address budgeting- contracts and software compliance- which includes the following:

  • Perform activities to support SAM platforms- processes- and procedures- which automates the accurate collection and reporting of key software data; and to ensure that products can be managed across the enterprise in an effective manner.  Experience and familiarity with SAM technologies and standard industry platforms is preferred.
  • Manage proof of entitlement documentation- asset purchase authorizations- license renewal and maintenance agreements and then coordinate the timely upload into SAM platforms.
  • Monitor software service request workflows- automated catalogs and reclamation campaigns by utilizing IT service and SAM platforms.  Enable positive end user self-service capabilities.
  • Reconcile a wide variety of software license entitlement and discovery data- including but not limited to- server- storage- middleware- database- and desktop software.  Analyze exception data to identify the root causes for non-compliance and areas of opportunity to recycle licenses.  Routinely present the data analysis results and recommendations to diverse stakeholders.
  • Quantify the extent of non-compliance in dollar ($) value- to drive awareness- facilitate priority setting and focus on potential remediation efforts.  Partner with IT Operation’s end user and hosting teams to identify specific actions- monitor and report the status of cleanup activities.  Track issues through to completion and measure against targeted KPI timelines.
  • Manage the license maintenance renewal processes to ensure that payments are justified- are in line with contractual commitments- and are paid or canceled in time to avoid late payment fees or cancellation penalties.  Assist in the automation of the software renewal data collection and approval processes and monitor the request queue on a timely basis.
  • Execute software financial management activities for Corp and US zones (including global spend managed by the SAM team).  Prepare financial software forecasts- month end close accruals- prepaid amortization entries and inter-company software recharge data submissions.
  • Support annual budget submission processes and analysis of incremental project spend- renewal price and consumption increases- as well as- impacts from optimization opportunities- reclamations or decommissions; Provide recharge estimates for zone IT PPM team’s planning purposes.

Qualifications

The software asset senior analyst must have the following attributes and skills:

  • Experience related to SAM tools- processes and policies and industry best practices
  • Understanding of IT software asset life cycle stages and activities
  • Specialized in-depth knowledge of publisher license models- policies- maintenance and delivery methods (on prem and cloud software options) is required
  • Strong analytical- data-gathering and problem-solving skills with the ability to carry out data visualization and create high-quality presentations and analysis
  • Strong communication skills with a proven ability to understand key concepts- communicate and collaborate with technical staff- business stakeholders- senior management and external vendors
  • Proven ability to develop- implement- and execute action plans
  • Self-motivation and ability to organize his or her own time in line with business priorities
  • Highly organized with acute attention to detail

Role Expertise / Experience

  • Bachelor’s in Information Technology- Finance- Audit or other Analytical related degrees
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in delivering Software Asset Management services
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) working in IT or ITAM/SAM team for a large enterprise ($10B+)
  • Proven experience (3-5 years) in an analytical role (e.g.- data analyst- financial analyst)
  • Strong knowledge of Software Asset Management principles and practices and how software discovery systems play their part in mapping entitlements with the inventory
  • Knowledge of various types of vendor software contract and license agreements- including familiarity with product use rights within a global environment
  • Demonstrated competency in contract administration- purchasing or procurement with relevant experience in software renewal processes
  • Preparing presentations and reports for Senior Management
  • Certified Software Asset Manager (CSAM) or ITAM Certifications preferred
